Defend us in battle. Leo XIII wrote the prayer in 1886 and the whole Church said it after Low Mass for eighty years; many parishes have taken it up again. Michael is the archangel of Revelation who cast the dragon down, the guardian of the Church and of the dying, and his feast is September 29.
