In December 1531 the Mother of God appeared to Juan Diego on Tepeyac hill and left her portrait on his tilma: a young woman clothed with the sun, a mantle of stars, the crescent moon beneath her feet, an angel bearing her up. This statue follows the tilma image, with the rays extending to the top, and stands 18 inches tall to the top of the rays. Patroness of the Americas, her feast is December 12.
Eighteen inches sits on a home altar, a bedside table or a parish office shelf. It is a common Confirmation, wedding and new-home gift, and a natural choice for a December 12 celebration.
